As our first ever hackathon for 2/3 of the team, we would've never imagined a more rewarding experience after finishing our project.

Eager to learn about taking on a collaborative coding project, our team began to discuss the fundamental idea of our application. We mainly drew inspiration from existing applications like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Habitica (a habit-tracking app). We then talked about features that are doable and realistic (dubbed "milestones") in developing in terms of our combined novice to intermediate level of experience.

From then, Habtivate (a combo of words where "habits" would "activate" ourselves to seek our true potential) grew from an idea and was an application in development. We started from the ground up with learning the fundamentals of HTML and CSS. With Alex familiar with these languages and also the Bootstrap framework, he showed us the ropes and good techniques in creating a website. Along the way, we tinkered with version control which have definitely helped us out in the long run.

Creating an application not only allowed us to cultivate a good intuition about cooperative coding projects but really brought out the true colors of ourselves. During our time, we've experienced some mishaps over which version of the code was correct, what kind of color scheme was most effective for the user to easily use it, and the division of work among the group. Our differences about the vision of our application almost derailed us from our present tasks. When we acknowledge that this exists, the most important thing that we've learned was that the fundamental vision of our project was stated even before development, and that working together in order to meet that vision was something to consider.

Moving forward, our group grew closer as collaborators. As we began to meet our milestones, we were determined to keep going to the end. ("Milestone" was also another name the was considered in place of "Habtivate", the latter name was special.) Once we saw the About Page, we knew that our hard work and perseverance paid off in the long run.
