Inspiration 💡

Climate change hits vulnerable communities hardest, yet they're locked out of green economy jobs. We saw rural areas facing two crises: unemployment and urgent need for climate action.

In countries like India, local governments (Gram Panchayats) struggle to mobilize communities for tree planting, water harvesting, and solar maintenance. Meanwhile, daily wage workers desperately need reliable income but lack access to formal job markets.

GreenTask bridges this gap: connecting local governments needing climate action with workers needing income. 🌍💚

What it does 🚀

GreenTask is a hyperlocal climate-action micro-jobs marketplace connecting government officials with community members in climate-vulnerable regions.

For Government Officials (Web Dashboard) 🏛️

Post climate micro-jobs (tree planting, water harvesting, solar maintenance, waste management)
Review and accept worker applications
Verify completed work with geo-tagged photo proof
Approve payments transparently
Track collective climate impact

For Workers (Mobile App) 📱

Discover nearby climate jobs with location filtering
Apply to jobs with one tap
Submit before/after photos with automatic geo-tagging
Track earnings in digital wallet
See personal climate impact (trees planted, CO2 offset)

Real-time metrics showing total trees planted, CO2 offset, jobs completed, and income generated for workers across all communities.

How we built it 🛠️

Web Dashboard: Next.js + Tailwind CSS + shadcn/ui + Google Maps API
Mobile App: Flutter + Material Design 3 + Google Maps + image_picker + geolocator
Backend: Supabase (PostgreSQL, Auth, Storage, Real-time, RLS)

🕐 App Store Delays - Pivoted to GitHub submission instead of live deployment
📍 GPS Accuracy - Handled poor signals in rural areas with fallback strategies
🖼️ Image Optimization - Compressed images for 2G/3G networks
🔄 Real-time Sync - Coordinated updates across web and mobile platforms
⚖️ Simplicity vs Features - Ruthlessly prioritized for users with limited digital literacy
🔐 Auth Pivot - Switched from OTP to email auth due to SMS gateway complexity

Next.js App Router + Flutter + Supabase = powerful rapid development stack

Less is more - cutting scope helped us nail core workflows
Designing for low digital literacy requires questioning every assumption
