Inspiration
What makes VR impressive is when you feel like you know the environment and I thought that moving around known places with superpowers would definitively be a good start.
What it does
Let you explore known places in uncommon ways as you can move using superpowers (web glinding , super jump, lightning speed ...)
How we built it
Using Unity + Cesium + Google Map Tiles + Ready player me for the non VR part / XR interaction toolkit for the VR part + Meta Quest Pro for the recordings.
Challenges we ran into
Still trying to resolve the low quality at street level by combining the project with home made scans / nerfs
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As I am not a developper, I am proud to navigate the various approaches and getting a viable result : I had people requiring an access to the "game" while there was no game design, objectives nor scenario.
What we learned
What is in a tileset file, the various LOD available and the overall structure, the various constraints around loading time / space and headset specific requirements
What's next for Geospatial exploration
Currently trying to figure out if gaussian splatting could help to improve the quality, and if they could be obtained from available google streetview 360 pictures :D
