Inspiration

We were inspired by how many students feel stressed and burnt out from constantly tracking productivity and results. Apps that are supposed to help students often make things worse by adding more stress. That’s why we wanted to build something that helps people spend less time on screens and more time doing small activities.

What it does

Gentle Compass is a gentle AI-powered mini-challenge generator. Students can choose many categories, like creative, social, and pick how much time they have. Based on your choices, it will give you easy activities to try in real life, like taking a walk, journaling, or sketching. There are no streaks or scores – just pure suggestions.

How we built it

  • We plan to build using PyGame

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was deciding what not to include. It was hard to resist adding extra features. Even though features like points or streaks are common, we left them out to keep the app stress-free. Also, the timing of the video. We thought it would be easy for us to film and edit, but it wasn't.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Came out with the idea of a clear, focused concept

What we learned

We learned that impactful AI doesn’t need to be complex. Good design is about intention, restraint, and user well-being. We also learnt that even small details (like avoiding streaks) can greatly affect user experience.

What's next for "Gentle Compass."

  • Test the app with real students
  • Add more user-friendly features while keeping the app simple
