Inspiration: The game was inspired by the nostalgic, neon-soaked aesthetic and driving culture of 1980s synthwave media.
What it does: Flicker Road is an endless arcade racer focused on high-speed drifting and navigating a stylized, dynamically lit retro-futuristic highway.
How we built it: We built the game using Unity, leveraging custom shaders and procedural generation to create the glowing road and dynamic environment effects.
Challenges we ran into: A major challenge was optimizing the heavy lighting and particle effects to run smoothly while maintaining the desired cinematic, low-light atmosphere.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We are most proud of successfully capturing the warm, dreamlike, and intensely colorful visual mood we set out to achieve.
What we learned: We learned a great deal about balancing performance with highly stylized graphical effects, particularly with neon glow and depth-of-field post-processing.
What's next for Flicker Road: We plan to add a competitive time-trial mode, more customizable vehicles, and an expanded soundtrack for the full release.
