Inspiration

FairLink was born out of a vision to revolutionize traditional career fairs. The inspiration came from recognizing the limitations of physical career events – the inconvenience of travel, the limitations on the number of participants, and the ecological impact. We wanted to create a platform that would break down these barriers and provide a more inclusive, convenient, and sustainable way for job seekers and employers to connect.

What it does

FairLink serves as a digital venue for hosting career fairs entirely in a virtual environment. FairLink eliminates the need for physical travel, making it accessible to users from anywhere in the world. This convenience makes it easier for job seekers and employers to connect without geographical limitations.

How we built it

Building FairLink was a multidisciplinary effort, and at its core was the utilization of Unity 3D and C#. Our development team, well-versed in Unity 3D and C# programming, worked diligently to create a seamless and immersive virtual environment. Using Unity 3D, we designed and constructed the virtual career fair spaces, ensuring every detail was finely tuned for an engaging user experience.

Challenges we ran into

During the preliminary stages of FairLink's development, we encountered a series of coding and debugging challenges. As with any ambitious project, ensuring the reliability and functionality of the platform was a top priority. We grappled with intricate lines of code and worked tirelessly to squash bugs that cropped up in the Unity 3D and C# components.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning how to navigate Unity 3D, learning about Markov Chains, and implementing a chat-box AI. We worked collaboratively to learn from each other and contribute something to the project.

What we learned

Throughout the development of FairLink, we gained invaluable experience in creating immersive experiences within Unity 3D. Our journey involved mastering the intricacies of Unity's game engine, 3D modeling, and virtual environment design. We honed our skills in building interactive virtual spaces that mimic the real-world dynamics of career fairs, ensuring that our users felt engaged and empowered in their virtual interactions.

This hands-on learning allowed us to craft a platform that not only met but exceeded user expectations for a truly immersive virtual career fair experience. Our team's dedication to acquiring these skills was instrumental in bringing FairLink to life as a cutting-edge platform.

What's next for FairLink

Improving aesthetics, creating more advanced AI, enabling communication with webcam and microphone, and streaming it on VR and other web platforms.
