Inspiration

We had a Software defined radio and found a way to read the radio spectrum. After getting that set up we discovered that a raspberry pi can be turned into an FM transmitter. With that the path was set ahead of us.

What it does

We have two components to the project. The transmitter side and the receiver side. The transmitter sends sound, music, images, or just raw binary data to the receiver.

The receiver gets the signal and processes it into a fancy spectrogram for analysis.

How we built it

We built it using a variety of hardware and technology. We used scrap aluminium foil to create a reflector dish for receiver.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many challenges with the transmitter. Getting the frequency right and the overall transmission rate was a pure trial by error. We thankfully discovered solutions to all of our problems and got the transmission working perfectly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are especially proud of the transmission pi as well as the reflector dish that we made with the leftover trash from Saturday Lunch.

What we learned

We learned a lot about Fast Fourier Transforms, FM radio spectrum, metal dishes, and signal propagation.

What's next for ERROR

Getting the receiver to work at full speed.
