Inspiration
The world generates 2.01 billion tons of plastic and other solid waste in a year. By 2050, 3.05 billion waste would be produced annually. Between 400,000 and 1 million people are dying as a result of such mismanaged waste. Even waste management techniques fail to reduce waste, only a tiny percentage is recycled and reused. We are in a loop where we generate a high percentage of waste and then dispose of them in more and more places, as a result polluting the environment.
What it does
We introduce Envokart to solve this problem, Envokart picks up the waste from your doorstep according to your scheduled date and time. It provides an approx classification of the type and price of waste produced in your household by its images. It provides awesome deals, discounts, coupons to shop from the website, in which products are eco friendly. Therefore gradually slowing and hence breaking the loop of use of plastic and non-biodegradable stuff in the household, restaurants, colleges and corporate offices. The waste collected is given in bulks to industries, recycling it or making compost out of it avoiding methods like landfills, ocean dumping at the same time generating a part of revenue for us, providing the luxury of your waste being picked up at your doorstep and earning from it and also providing jobs of delivering and pick up for students, along with volunteering services like an NGO for worriers.
How we built it
Envokart has been built using web development (HTML, Bootstrap, JavaScript, CSS, AWS), ML(python, TensorFlow, pandas and many other libraries), API (google JavaScript API and Google Geolocation API), IBM Watson Chatbot, google cloud, hosting services and many other resources.
Challenges we ran into
Waste Segregation and pricing it accordingly is one of the biggest challenges while collecting the waste.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
By doing this we would be breaking the loop of use of non-biodegradable items, generating jobs for people and also making sure that they are not dumped in lands and ocean thereby saving from the upcoming great environmental crisis in our near future.
What we learned
During this hackathon and this project, we have learnt the importance of living life with minimal waste, we learnt to work in a team, negotiate and keep an open mind and not be like roots of a tree. In tech, we gained some knowledge about Google cloud and IBM services.
What's next for ENVOKART
We are planning to showcase this project to our mentors, tech-heads of the societies and entrepreneurship cell hoping from some support, feedback and guidance from them.
