Inspiration

The inspiration for Oorja Sanrakshan came from the urgent need to address energy conservation and sustainability at the grassroots level. With climate change becoming an ever-pressing issue, we wanted to create a project that empowers local communities to take actionable steps towards a greener future. Observing the impact of collective efforts in various environmental movements, we believed that if small communities unite, they can make a significant difference. Thus, Oorja Sanrakshan was born to foster collaboration and awareness within local neighbourhoods to conserve energy effectively.

What it does

Oorja Sanrakshan is a web application designed to unite local communities for energy conservation. The application begins with a user-friendly landing page, explaining our mission to promote energy conservation for a sustainable future. By leveraging users' IP addresses, we identify their locality and provide data-driven insights specific to their area. Our platform offers actionable tips tailored to each community's needs, and users can interact with an AI-powered chatbot for personalized advice. To further enhance community engagement, we have integrated Discord, leveraging its existing technology to facilitate communication and collaboration among users. The goal is to educate and engage users, encouraging them to implement energy-saving practices and collectively reduce their environmental footprint.

How we built it

We built Oorja Sanrakshan using a combination of technologies to ensure a seamless and engaging user experience. The landing page was developed using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, providing users with a visually appealing and intuitive interface. To facilitate community engagement, we integrated Mailchimp for email communication, allowing users to stay updated and connected.

For the backend, we utilized Python and Streamlit to create a robust platform that processes user data and provides personalized insights. We used geolocation APIs, including Google's Geolocator, to determine users' localities based on their IP addresses and display this information on interactive maps. Our data analysis module generates localized insights on energy consumption and conservation opportunities, helping users understand their specific needs.

Additionally, we developed an AI-driven module using natural language processing techniques to offer personalized recommendations. The AI chatbot facilitates community interaction, providing actionable tips and advice to users, and making energy conservation accessible and actionable for everyone. This project was a collaborative effort, combining our expertise in web development, data science, and AI to create a comprehensive solution for energy conservation.

Challenges we ran into

Accurately determining users' localities based on IP addresses, requiring precise geolocation data and addressing privacy concerns.
Integrating real-time data analysis for diverse localities and developing an AI chatbot that provides accurate and practical recommendations.

We are proud of several key accomplishments with Oorja Sanrakshan:

Successfully connected over 40 people through Mailchimp.
Built a community of more than 20 users on our Discord server for the Delhi locality.
Created an intuitive and informative landing page that effectively communicates our mission and engages users.
Accurately identified users' localities and provided tailored energy conservation tips through data-driven insights.
Developed an AI chatbot that offers personalized advice, enhancing user interaction and making energy conservation accessible and actionable for everyone.
