Inspiration

When we were studying, we often find it hard to memorize facts (ie. mathematical formulas) to prepare for exams where retention of detailed information is crucial. This is to us looking for ways to optimize the process of studying and stumbled across a research showing that music can enhance memory and recall. For example, a study published in the journal "Memory" found that information learned while listening to music was better recalled when participants heard the same music again during the recall phase. Additionally, we found out that personalizing study methods, such as creating songs tailored to specific topics, can enhance effectiveness. This approach allows learners to connect emotionally and creatively with the material, potentially leading to deeper understanding and retention. We searched up education songs on YouTube and felt that they aided in the retention of information and simplifying complex topics, as well as made boring topics feel more interesting. However, there might not be a song for every topic, leading to the idea of creating EduRythm.

What it does

EduRythm is a Chrome extension that leverages AI and the benefits of music to optimize the studying experience. All it takes is a prompt on the topic you are studying and a full song tailored to the prompt would be produced. A playlist can also be created to save these songs, as well as separate songs related to different subjects for future use.

How we built it

Music Composition: Our algorithms created melodies and harmonies to match the educational content. This made the music engaging and suitable for learning.

Chrome Extension Development: The frontend was built with ReactJS.

Challenges we ran into

Tight Development Timeline: Developing a robust Chrome extension integrated with advanced AI capabilities within a limited timeframe was demanding. We had to streamline development processes and prioritize feature implementation to meet deadlines.

Looking ahead, we have several plans to further enhance and expand EduRythm:

Collaboration Features: Introduce collaborative playlist creation and sharing options for educators and students to exchange educational songs.

Mobile Integration: Develop mobile versions of EduRythm for broader accessibility across different devices and platforms.

EduRythm aims to revolutionize studying by leveraging AI-generated music to foster deeper learning engagement and retention among students of all ages and learning styles.
