Inspiration

I watched David Attenborough's "A life on our planet" documentary about a year ago. That's when I decided I wanted to learn how to code and do something about climate change. After some thinking, I thought it would be nice if there was a community of people that motivate each other so that you feel more connected during the process.

What it does

The app has interesting articles to read, live statistics about climate change, fascinating experiments you can try on your own, and scientific researches you can participate in so that scientists can get data to work with.

How we built it

As soon as we had the idea, I started learning Flutter. After two days of learning after school, I knew enough to start making the app. The app and design aren't great but I learned a lot about Flutter and mobile development during the process. Omotz has been working on firebase_auth, I (Michiel) have made most of the pages, Palaash has worked on the research paper, and Lander has helped us with the Pitch.

Challenges we ran into

A lot of errors while setting up flutter, coming up with good designs and ideas.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Getting a lot done in a short amount of time. We all definitely learned a bit about coordinating things as a team.

What we learned

Flutter. That you should first make designs, then code. To start sooner on a project like this, we are planning on redoing everything and having better features and a better design next time.

What's next for Ecolation

Fun STEM projects that users can try out to get more involved with technology. A climate map. To be published as a real app :)
