Inspiration

We had heard about all the death and destruction occurring over the past month. However, people have seem to have forgotten about this tragic incident. We wanted raise awareness and provide people with a bridge that could enable them to directly make an impact on the lives of Puerto Ricans.

What it does

We designed a non-profit company called Disaster Relief Organization - Puerto Rico (DRO-PR) that creates multiple platforms which enable people to aid victims while simultaneously allowing Puerto Ricans to reach out for emergency help.

How we built it

We designed one website, one Android app, and one IOS app. The website was built using html, css, and javascript. The Android app was developed through MIT App Inventor using java. The IOS app was built to be viewed on web platforms using scripting and behavioral languages as well as a final layer of programming. In order to obtain this research, we used credible sites from the Internet.

Challenges we ran into

While creating the Android app, we faced difficulty linking firebase to the java code. We also found it difficult to read about the tragic conditions of Puerto Rico and the manner in which corrupt companies are taking advantage of an already terrible situation. Additionally, it was our first time coding apps. Yet, we remained determined in the face of these adversities knowing that if we were successful, we could help so many people in Puerto Rico.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the amount of effort we have put into our applications and of our user interface. Additionally, we take great pride in being able to accomplish so much in so little time.

What we learned

We learned how to utilize firebase, develop interactive apps, and work effectively in a team.

What's next for DRO-PR

We plan on expanding this company so that it may affect not just Puerto Rico, but other nations across the world. Additionally, we hope to accept donations through our website. In this system, 90 cents from ever dollar donated will be sent to Puerto Rico while 10 cents will used to maintain our website.
