Inspiration

Obesity is a massive issue in the world today, and many are doing their best to combat it by staying healthy through means of exercise. While exercise may seem to provide many health benefits on the surface, over exerting your body physically can do more harm than good. This is where Don’t Push It comes in, to set a limit on your exercising.

What it does

Don’t Push It is a machine used to keep track of your heart rate and monitors it when you’re working out, where it will send a message to your phone with an alert to tone down your workout.

How I built it

Don’t Push It works by using an Arduino Uno board, HC-05 Bluetooth Module, and a Heart Rate Monitor to track your heart rate. The Bluetooth module works well with the Arduino models, and sends data from the Heart Rate Monitor to your phone via an app (made with Android Studio).

Challenges I ran into

Using the Bluetooth module was a struggle, as we could not get it to connect many times leading us to reinvent the code many times. We also planned to use the Arduino MKR 1000 board, but we were unable to make it work with the code.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Being able to complete the project itself is amazing.

What I learned

How to operate the Bluetooth module and the limitations of certain Arduino models.

What's next for Don't Push It

Currently we are uncertain about the future of this project.
