Why don't hospitals show their prices upfront? Enter CrossCompare!

This app visualizes one of CMS's recently released data sets to show hospital average procedure prices, along with HCAHPS quality ratings. With additional statistical analysis, the hospitals are ranked against each other, making it easy to compare hospitals near you!

As you surf through the easy to navigate map interface, you'll find hospitals on the same street charging tens of thousands of dollars different for the same procedure, you'll see that high prices does not mean high quality, and you'll discover the drastic difference between what a hospital charges your insurance, and what your insurance ends up paying the hospital.

With the Plain English filter, it's easy to search and filter for the procedures you care about, turning medical terms like Acute Myocardial Infarction into understandable ailments like Heart Attack. And in case you don't know what a certain procedure is, you can tap on it to learn more about it!

Using ObjectRocket's slick MongoDB service, CrossCompare hosts its hospital data in the cloud, reducing app size and making it easy to update data in the future.

A proof of concept version of CrossCompare was developed before the NoSQL challenge. Since the challenge, the app has been updated to include:
