CovaMap

Inspiration:

Numerous strains from UK, Brazil, Nigeria, Nagpur... all are in India. Given the large population and thus, the large number of cases, ICU beds, medicines, Oxygen supply, all are in short supply. The situation has led many patients to lay on roads, due to lack of treatment, causing their deaths.

What it does:

CovaMap has made a website as a solution, to show the number of ICU beds, medicines, Oxygen supply and vaccines of every clinic, hospital and apothecary, in India. We gather information from our constantly updating data through an API, and show it in a map form. But we’ve taken care of many other factors too, which are severely under-the-radar.

Our Impact:

Report from BBC, Telegraph, and many domestic and international outlets highlight India’s plight. One of their articles say that many people die minutes before finally taken to hospitals. What is the problem here? It is the large amount of time taken to search these hospitals to inquire about ICU beds, oxygen available, etc. Many people high and low plead on social media for this invaluable information. CovaMap provide this elixir to people. This is our impact to the world in this Covid season - to protect the people of one of the most infected countries in the world.

How we built it:

We built the Frontend with Next.js Framework, Database we used was MongoDB. Visual Rendering for Covid Maps, MapBoxGL was used. Further, Heroku and Vercel Platforms were used for deploying and hosting our Database and Website.

Challenges we ran into:

Configuring MongoDB was a major challenge, Editing CSS for making the Website available to people on mobile phones also, which forced us to revamp our code from scratch. Google Maps API was a huge challenge due to its billing terms and conditions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of:

Integrating MongoDB, Revamping CSS for responsiveness of website at the eleventh hour. Finding an alternative and replacing Google Maps API.

What we learned:

Time Management and Team Work is a key component of any project.

What's next for CovaMap:

Time is less, cases are high, resources are less, stakes are high. But high is our determination to expand this invaluable treasury to all the affected countries. Our API gets constantly updated, but only for India. We aim to hire more people in our team to get data from other countries. The world community with our Encyclopedia of resources can help defeat Coronavirus much faster. In this near future, we aim to expand our website to cover other countries.
