We were inspired to create Constellations in order to connect people based on their knowledge, skills, and interests. While we came across many existing apps that strive to connect people, they were all open to the public. Our app limits connections to people within a certain organization by requiring an organization-affiliated email for log-in (ie. user@cmu.edu). With members already vetted by the organization, users can feel more confident about the quality of information provided by the people they're connecting with, as well as their safety when connecting with a new person.
We foresee many applications for this app. For example, at Carnegie Mellon University, students can connect with other students to learn a specific skill, find potential interviewees for a research project, or even learn about another city that they are planning to travel to. Constellations is designed to produce reciprocal relationships where both users benefit from the connection. Only users that crossmatch on "things they want to learn" and "things they can share" will be shown to one another, since we believe in quality connections. With Constellations, users within an organization can become resources for one another. Constellations not only supports life-long learning, but also promotes a tighter knit community within an organization.
