Inspiration
Drawing from our personal experiences in education and recognizing the gap in products designed to develop computational thinking skills, we were inspired to create something for kids. Our goal was to design a game that makes learning computational thinking both fun and accessible. CodeBuddies was created to foster teamwork, creativity, and logical problem-solving.
What it does
CodeBuddies challenges players to pre-plan the movements of two characters to reach a shared goal. By thinking ahead and collaborating, players develop problem-solving skills in an engaging and interactive way.
How we built it
We developed CodeBuddies using Unity, designing a simple yet intuitive interface for kids. The game logic focuses on sequencing, reinforcing fundamental computational thinking skills.
Challenges we ran into
Balancing difficulty was tricky, we wanted the game to be accessible yet challenging enough to promote learning. Designing cooperative mechanics that felt natural also required iteration and testing.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully created a game that encourages kids to think critically and work together within 24 hours as a duo. We are extremely proud of the work we were able to get done and are excited to touch it up in the future!
What we learned
We gained experience in designing educational games, making the game accessible to young audiences, and implementing cooperative mechanics. We also improved our ability to balance a strict deadline and creating a minimal viable product.
What's next for CodeBuddies
We plan to expand the game with more levels, new mechanics, and include loops and conditional statemetns to let kids try harder challenges.
