Inspiration
Liza's parents co-own a restaurant. We love to cook together. Making food needs to be more fun!
What it does
Log in with your google email and you will have a personal record book of recorded "recipes" When you arrive at the slot machine page, you crank the lever and watch as ingredients are randomly chosen for you. Your goal now is to create a recipe from these items and explore a new world of flavors and combinations.
How we built it
Deployed on GitHub and linked with Firebase hosting: www.chowllenge.web.app The site was built using React.js and a number of helpful libraries. The food data was manually added and inserted into the scripts. Edamam Food Ingredient API was used to gather imagery of the foods. Firebase firestore databases were used to store data at each user location.
Challenges we ran into
React.js is a front end framework that doesn't handle certain operations very well. Many times we ran into issues that almost caused a full reset. Next time, we plan to use a backend framework to handle data processing, database retrievals / requests, etc.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
A functioning Brickhack app for building a healthy relationship with food!
What we learned
Tons about React.js and front end work. How making food in the kitchen is actually fun and can be a chowllenge.
What's next for Chowllenge
mentioned in video.
We did buy chowllenge.com and chowllenge.me <- We need recognition for buying both!!!! Please... The link is slightly broken, so the video does plenty justice.
