Inspiration

We wanted to do something with social impact, and was thinking of ways of help refugees affected by the war in Ukraine.

As paradigms across many areas of life shift toward decentralisation - implied are the ever-emerging changes affecting the fundamentals of social interaction. In this context, our main goal was to address real-life problems encountered daily by communities displaced by the war, and/or other political and economic turmoils. With the "traditional" finance mechanisms within families being severely damaged we strive to create a border-less, communities-driven, peer-to-peer lending solution, tailored to the realistic needs of those in distress, and abandoning dehumanising practices (such as predatory credit score assessment tactics).

What it does

Socially-impactful borderless loans - providing easy access to financial support through the natively humane mechanism of vouching for the people you know. It allows users, even with no previous web3 experience to navigate through and execute loans easily, with the complete UI and UX being in close accordance with their real needs and circumstances of distress.

How we built it

We used IDriss and the Twitter api to create an Ethereum address book for the users social graph.

To make it easy for users with no crypto assets to get crypto assets we integrated with the ramp.network .

We use the Union Protocol to allow for the socially enabled credit rails for lending and borrowing.

Challenges we ran into

  • Rate limiting on the twitter api (ended up mocking the apis as a result)
  • Union data library reporting outdated data for the testnet, so we had to use mocking here also.
  • Time constraints problems to completing the contract code for completing the full integration with the Union protocol.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Uniting a very diverse team of people, driven together by the shared vision to initialize and create a solution with a real-world impact :)

What we learned

  • These issues can be approached from multiple perspectives, from social to technical, opening up new interesting problem questions and corresponding solutions. For example: we would like to propose a DAO-wide change of interest rates on the Union-protocol, making it more accessible through evoking awareness about our use case (and more sensitive use cases that can do good for those in need)

What's next for Poruka

  • Complete the smart contract so the product can be used
  • Present the project at Kyiv Tech Summit
  • Continue working on this and include more people in the project :)
