Inspiration
We realized that drive scores that insurance companies make are quite passive in terms of detecting bad behavior. We realized that there is still potential to be had towards better road safety by actively analyzing the driver's behavior, so that's how CarCheese was born. (You smile whenever you look at a camera? Cheese?)
What it does
CarCheese is an administrator-focused web app that lets you gives you reports of bad behavior from car drivers, and give them increased/reduced insurance premiums based on how badly/well a driver behaves on the road! We use Gemini + Google Collab to analyze footage and flags bad behavior on each drive, which will in turn logged into personal history and get increased insurance premiums!
How we built it
CarCheese was built using a React.js frontend with a FastAPI backend. Image analysis was done using Gemini and Google Collab by ingesting video footage and breaking it down frame-by-frame and get it to give the cumulative results.
Challenges we ran into
A lot.
- We originally wanted to double up with Anthropic API and Google Cloud/Gemini but Anthropic would take way too long (and would face rate limits).
- It was challenging to integrate with the Gemini API into our workflow.
- Frontend-Backend integration was kind of difficult due to us not having much experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- We were able to summarize our video, categorize our footage, and fetch points via categorizing them.
- We made everything work! (and it did not take 10 years!)
- Frontend was integrated into backend pretty well
What we learned
- We learned how to better use our tokens on image processing and work around limitations that we had.
- Backend is full of pain and is for the smarts
- The power of friendship!
What's next for CarChees
- Pitch in a Shark Tank episode and pray that some insurance company buys us out for $100 million and retire in a beach house, turns CarCheese into a global standard and rule the world while making trillions of dollars.
