Inspiration BukhaarSaathi was inspired by the overcrowded OPDs in government hospitals where doctors see hundreds of fever patients daily — many with mild, self-limiting illnesses that could be managed at home. At the same time, people often self-medicate with paracetamol, ignore persistent fever, and seek help too late for serious diseases like dengue, malaria, or typhoid. We wanted to create a reliable AI companion that helps bridge this gap. What it does BukhaarSaathi is an AI-powered chatbot that simulates a doctor’s reasoning. It asks symptom-based, contextual questions (about duration, pattern, locality, and comorbidities) to narrow down possible causes of fever and assign an urgency level — guiding users on whether to rest, test, or rush to a hospital. How we built it We created a dataset of 20 common fever-causing diseases in India using verified data from standard medicine textbooks. Each disease includes differentiating symptoms, triage levels, and question flows, all converted into a structured logic engine for the chatbot backend. Challenges we ran into Balancing accuracy with simplicity was tough. Translating complex medical reasoning into short, clear chatbot questions required constant refinement. Accomplishments we’re proud of We built a functional, textbook-accurate triage system that mimics real clinical logic while remaining user-friendly. What we learned We learned to merge medical knowledge with AI design — building logic trees, clinical decision flows, and conversational interfaces safely. What’s next for BukhaarSaathi We plan to integrate real-time outbreak data, regional languages, and emergency helpline access to make BukhaarSaathi India’s go-to digital first-aid assistant.
