Bober - Polish transalation of beaver.

Judging Criteria

Creativity & Innovation: Using a multitude of different technologies that makes it easier for communities to decide what issues they want solving first. The technologies we chose were unique and allowed/required innovative ways to overcome challenges and achieve our goal.

Functionality & Technical Implementation: We've created 3 documentation files in the github repo containing the technical descriptions. (https://github.com/harpend/TeamBober/tree/main/documentation)

User Experience: We designed the UX with simplicity and usability in mind, but leaving room for improvements. By using a immediate ui we achieved a fast, responsive and interactive experience. Through the upvote system we create a connection between the dedicated bobr council members that will resolve your issues. The reward system fosters engagement with the feed enabling users to see beautiful bobers.

Growth: This was an interesting and open-ended topic to take on. We aimed to improve the growth in communities quality by allowing members to vote on what is most important to everyone. Especially small communities such as villages have experience degregation in their social wellbeing and quality of life, our solution should help to revert this to a more positive sense of belonging in the long term. As an added benefit we've enticed users to donate to The Beaver Trust.

Inspiration

We want to connect communities together and help then tackle problems and efficiently solve them making a real impact!

What it does

B.O.B.R provides the users with a feed that gets active issues within the community and the required information and allows you to complete it yourself or forward it to a council member through upvotes. To promote a active community we also have amazing rewards that incentivise reporting and completing issues.

How we built it

We gave each member a part of the application they were confident in doing and they choose their preferred stack. Then we worked on joining it all together and ensuring correct functioning of the different layers.

Challenges we ran into

We pivoted from using a raspberry pi to microbit as the setup was too complicated as the rpi was old and didnt have a wifi module.

We also encountered issues with the building as some of our members have different OS and had trouble compiling the cpp with libraries.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We managed to join all the different parts our team worked on into something cohesive that works well.

What we learned

  • Baremetal programming on micro:bit.
  • To create a GUI in cpp.
  • Varying communication types between 4 different endpoints.
  • To complete a project in a short amount of time.

What's next for Bobr

A battle pass for unlocking Bobr's and improving the rewards.
