Aura

Inspiration

Aura was inspired by the unresolved environmental issues that we see in our communities every day. Many feel that "going green" is out of reach and don't know where to get started or how their actions can make a difference. Others face eco-anxiety or climate anxiety which is essentially defined as "the chronic fear of environmental doom" by the APA. This is something greatly affected by everyday environmental problems. Getting involved with the community is a positive way to deal with such stresses. This thus inspired the creation of Aura as a solution to such everyday problems.

What it does

Aura wants to cultivate environmental change through a decentralized P2P incentive system, so community activists can be rewarded for their work. Essentially, users can identify environmental issues that they see in the community and post it on Aura for other people to resolve. Other users can then look through posted assignments, search for specific ones, or filter through how much DeSo each assignment is worth, types of assignments, and locations of assignments to find one that they are interested in solving. Once it is resolved, the user who posted the issue can give the user who solved it DeSo.

How we built it

After brainstorming and thinking about the various environmental problems that we want to see addressed, Aura was in the making. Aura was built using various platforms and languages including HTML, CSS, Javascript, ReactJS, DeSo, Chakra UI, and Figma.

Challenges we ran into

Debugging errors using NextJs was a huge obstacle that made us decide to switch over to ReactJs but kept on persevering through the end to develop a web application. We also had a blockchain developer who left our team only hours before the deadline which put us in a chokehold and could not fully implement blockchain technology but the concept is still present.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Being able to be open to trying new things and learning about new topics is an accomplishment in itself that we are proud of. Other than that though, one of our achievements has been creating a full-fledged UI application made on Figma. Successfully translating that as a web application using ReactJs and Chakra UI was also a major accomplishment of ours.

What we learned

We were exposed to a lot of new things through this experience. Firstly, we learned how to design UI/UX designs using Figma. We also learned how to use ReactJs, Chakra UI, and Framer Motion, all while debugging errors and developing more code. Furthermore, we also learned more about understanding blockchain technology regarding DeSo.

What's next for Aura

In the future, we have 3 main goals for Aura:

• Expanding and improving Aura's outreach
• Developing a larger community with more community eco-centered activities and challenges
• Educating and strengthening awareness about environmental issues
