Inspiration A lot of concept art of an idea of an "Augmented City" exists but nobody has actually ever started to create one. We believe the technology exists now to create one. Our aim is to turn NYU’s campus into a Dynamic Augmented City of the Future. Students, visitors, and employees gain a rich understanding of the NYU campus using a digital overlay created by the system, revealing places of interest such as buildings, classes and events at their real world locations. To achieve this, the Augmented City system utilizes three types of tracking—edge-based, point-cloud, and GPS tracking. Finally, the Augmented City will feature an interactive safety system that will give users an intelligent awareness during emergencies. Safe routes will be mapped in times of emergency and buildings will be marked as danger zones in the event of hazards. Through a dynamic user interface, users can experience a vision of how cities will be engaged and shaped in the future.

We use Edge, Point, and GPS tracking and CAD models to geolocate buildings. Once the buildings are scanned and updated via a database. A digital overlay is placed over the building via the screen of a mobile device enabling dynamic augmented interactions.
