Inspiration

AggieShare began as a hackathon project at HackDavis, where our team noticed the waste created at the end of each academic year. Items in perfectly good condition were being discarded as students moved out and were unsure of what to do with them. At the same time, many students were struggling to afford essential items for their education and daily life. We saw an opportunity to connect these two problems with one solution: a platform for the donation of goods and essential items, specifically designed for college communities.

What we learned

We have the potential to do so much social good for our community, and the ability to make our solutions to existing problems possible, through consistent collaboration.

How we built our project

We created a beautiful, animated cloudscape for web pages that brings a sense of life and movement to digital interfaces.

As we worked on our donation page for UC Davis students, we wanted the experience to feel just as smooth and satisfying as watching clouds drift across the sky. What started with simple CSS clouds turned into a fully customizable system of moving and animations, realistic elements that bring the whole site to life.

But beyond the visuals, our mission is simple: to make it easy for students to donate and receive essential items—for free. Whether it's school supplies, kitchenware, or clothing, our platform connects students who have extra with those who need a little help. The best part? It's user-friendly, device-friendly, and built with care. Just like our cloud system, it’s flexible, accessible, and made to support a stronger, more connected UC Davis community.

Challenges we ran into

We didn't have an efficient way to all collaborate in the same environment simultaneously, due to the constraints of the resources we used to build our website. Although we were able to cover the basics and the essentials on what we wanted on the webpage, we couldn't finish some of the customized sections that we planned to do.
