Inspiration

Nowadays, third spaces are far and few between. With the speed of technological growth, online platforms have made it harder to meet people naturally, getting rid of the 'third space' we as humans have taken advantage of for so long. 80% of people in America live in cities or some form of urban area. Additionally, over 40% of the US population identifies as disabled in some form. This will, of course, limit the places accessible to them. From identifying places with ramps for those in wheelchairs to sensory friendly places for people who experience overload, it could not be easy to find a comfortable third space.

AccessACity aims to do just that: give everyone ease of access to events and third spaces in their local city.

What it does

AccessACity's major function is its event system. We display the local states and cities in those states of our users. Then, using a modern navigation system, users can locate their events on maps. They can save these events, rsvp to them, and even make their own.

How we built it

We used React Native with the Expo framework to construct our app.

Challenges we ran into

Some challenges we ran into were figuring out design choices and deciding on what ideas would make the cut vs. what ideas would not make the cut. Organizing and coordinating everyone so that we all had separate tasks that would not result in merge conflicts while keeping everyone productive was also difficult. Additionally, we had to create dummy data to properly display our app's functions, which was very time-consuming.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are particularly proud of the beautiful map display, pin interactivity, and dynamic nature/scalability of our project.

What's next for AccessACity

If we had all the time in the world for development, we would definitely focus on a more well-rounded filtering system. Additionally, implementing a real database to store information more dynamically than we currently are.
