Inspiration

We were inspired by how difficult accessibility was around campus. It was difficult to figure out what was readily available in terms of support for those with varying disabilities around campus, especially in popular social areas such as the AMS.

What it does

Access Aid aims to provide a safer and more convenient experience for people with walking disabilities in the Nest by pointing out ramps, best routes, and washrooms.

How we built it

We designed the website using Figma, and implemented it the Mappedin SDK, and react.

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble with the API, so we weren't able to customize the functions ourselves and instead opted to use the default map with its features.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to link in the API and were able to communicate what we needed well between developers and designers.

What we learned

We learned the importance of reading documentation and how important it is to communicate.

What's next for AccessAid

We plan to add these feature throughout UBC as well as expand on the features themselves. There are many other roadblocks that we want to be able to help with such as marking usually busy places for autism or noting brighter and/or stronger smelling places for pregnant women.
