Hackathons are returning to the Midlands, and birmingHack is leading the way!
birmingHack is a 24-hour hackathon held at the University of Birmingham's Computer Science building.
Theme
You can compete in multiple categories, but the main theme for this hackathon is building foundations. While the theme may be up to interpretation, we encourage you to think about future growth, sustainability, and innovation when creating your project!
Requirements
What to Build
The main hackathon theme is building foundations. If you're aiming for the main prize, this will be the theme you want to consider when making your project as it will be taken into account during judging. However, you are not required to follow this theme outside of this category.

[CSS] Most Fun Hack
CSS will be hosting the Most Fun Hack challenge! We're the fun society of the university, so it only makes sense.
For this category, make something that’s a bit quirky and unusual, but still enjoyable and fun!
Most fun hack will award LEGO Old Joe to each teammate!

[Majestic] Surprise us!
To stand a chance of winning, Majestic's challenge theme is "Delight or Surprise me"!
This could include something technically impressive, a creative work with a twist or a new take on a classic theme.
Winners will receive a goody bag of prizes each, including a soft fluffy toy, a nice tote bag, a sound cloud speaker and LEGO flower set.
[GDS] Most User-Friendly Hack
UI/UX is often the most forgotten aspect in Game Development, so GDS' challenge is in user-friendliness!
We want to see whatever you make have some aspect of good UI/UX design. Have intuitive design and a clean user interface. If you’re making a game, throw in a tutorial or remappable controls. Add your own AI chatbot idk.
Each winner will receive Among Us plushies.
[AlgoSoc] 1st Place - Best AI Hack that isn't an LLM Wrapper
There's a lot of incredible AI hacks out there, but AlgoSoc has asked for you to make the best AI hack that isn't just an LLM wrapper!
You will be judged on innovation, creativeness and minimal LLM use - you'll get bonus points for incorporating research and having a completely working solution.
Each winner will receive Samsung Galaxy Buds.
