Finding a kitten in distress can be scary. This page will walk you through what to do next, how to estimate age, and important care steps—especially for very young kittens. Please keep all ages safe, in a box or carrier, indoors, warm, and separate from pets.

Intake Policy: Silver Linings is not able to intake kittens under 8 weeks of age, but we can provide guidance and help you find appropriate next steps.

0–4 weeks: Eyes may be closed or opening, unsteady, cannot regulate body temperature. 
Do NOT feed cow’s milk, bathe, give medications, or leave outside. 
DO keep warm, quiet, and handle minimally. These kittens need specialized neonatal rescue or veterinary care.

5–7 weeks: More mobile, may nibble food, but still too young for us to intake. If sick or injured, seek a veterinarian or rescue experienced with young kittens.

8+ weeks: Walking steadily, eating on own, regulates body temperature. If injured send a clear photo. Intake is not guaranteed. Thank you for caring.

Silver Linings of Ohio is a small, volunteer-based 501(c)(3) kitten rescue dedicated to helping kittens that have been injured and/or abandoned. We intake vulnerable kittens, provide medical care, safe placement, and education.

We provide a low-cost spay/neuter TNR clinic, working alongside our community to reduce suffering and improve the lives of cats where they live.
