The iconic Castro Theater is the neighborhood's greatest landmark. It is worth visiting inside and out. One of the grandest remaining movie palaces in the USA still operating daily showing historic and contemporary cinema. The best time to experience it is during the Annual LGBTQIA Frameline Film Festival or other special events. It has been closed for renovation but reopened it remains the Grand Dame of San Francisco. Designed by archichitect Timothy Pfleuger and operating continuously since 1922. Now an international symbol of LGBTQ liberation.

Loving the events here lately! But the seats are falling apart & there's not nearly enough bathrooms for sold out shows (make sure you use the restroom before a line forms!).. I hope they are allowed to renovate soon. Concessions include beer, wine, cocktails, & coffee at most events. As well as popcorn & limited types of candy.
