The Software Underground is a grass-roots community of digital subsurface professionals. We are academic and applied geologists, geophysicists, engineers, and others. Our members live and work all over the globe, and coordinate with each other through our community Slack.

Each year, the Software Underground hosts multiple live and virtual events that support our members and the wider community. Our members also create and maintain numerous open source software projects, open data repositories, and a ton of open access content. As a fiscal sponsor, we channel funds directly to the work that needs support most.
