Inspiration

Plant New seeds. We took this quite literally, and thought about a game that incorporates growing characters who can then go on to battle each other. We thought that it could show that planting a seed, and putting in time and effort into growing something, results in something fun and rewarding. The characters are inspired by pokemon, and created using pixel art.

What it does

Each seed you plant can grow a new "seedemon". To speed up the process you can participate in various minigames which allow the timer to go down. Once you're seedemon has grown, it can then go on and battle other seedemons for rewards. Future rewards would include expanding and customising your land and different character personalization.

How we built it

We sectioned the project into multiple sections: the intro and background, minigames, and battle simulation. We then split these projects between the 4 of us. And combined it together at the end.

Challenges we ran into

One challenge was combining the minigames and the base game together. We didn't think about the transition from one part to another and found we then had to create buttons to trigger different parts of the games. In the future, we hope to also include transition periods to make this process a lot smoother.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the design of the seedemons as we think they are very creative. In addition, the smoothness of each of the minigames individually. It may have been tricky combining them, but each minigame works well individually. The final accomplishment, is the design of the title screen and the idea of a small character explaining the game. We felt like this was a good way to allow the user tohave a good understanding of the game, and still find the experience enjoyable.

What we learned

We learned that when sectioning a project, we also need to consider how each piece will go together. In addition, this was a really good learning experience using pygame, as it is something that some of us haven't used at all, or haven't used very much in the past.

What's next for Seedemon

In future versions of the game, we hope to add more rewards for the user to give them more incentive to play the game. As well as potentially adding an educational aspect., For example, each of the minigames could be used as revision exercise and the seedemon are like a reward for completing each activity successfully. We would also add a larger range of seedemon and give the user more of a choice.
